Mastering Your Recipes: How to Save and Manage Formulations

By HydroNutrientCalc Team5 min read

As you move from following basic nutrient schedules to developing your own highly optimized, crop-specific fertilizers, you will quickly generate dozens of different recipes. Keeping track of exactly how many grams of each raw salt went into your vegetative lettuce mix versus your fruiting tomato mix can become a logistical nightmare. That's where the Save Formulations feature comes in.

Feature Highlights

  • Cloud Storage: Instantly save any calculated recipe to your secure, personal database in the cloud.
  • Complete Data Retention: HydroNutrientCalc saves not only the salt weights, but the exact Target PPMs and the Achieved PPMs for every element.
  • Organization: Keep iterations of different crop cycles perfectly organized and recallable at any time.

Why Pen and Paper (or Spreadsheets) Aren't Enough

It's common for growers to note down their required weights for Calcium Nitrate or Potassium Phosphate in a notebook. However, this method disconnects the input (the salts) from the intent (the target PPMs). If you change your source water or buy a new batch of magnesium sulfate with a different purity percentage, those old gram weights are no longer accurate.

By saving formulations digitally within the software, you keep a permanent record of the Target Elemental Profile alongside the final mix. This allows you to review your strategies season after season, making tiny iterative tweaks to your electrical conductivity (EC) or micronutrient balances.

How to Save a Formulation

Saving your custom work is seamless and integrated directly into the calculation workflow:

1Calculate Your Ideal Recipe

Start by selecting a target preset or entering custom PPMs. Choose your raw salts, specify your reservoir volume, and hit the Calculate button. Ensure you are happy with the results in the table and the resulting EC value.

2Click 'Save Formulation'

At the bottom of your calculated results, click the Save Formulation button. A secure modal will appear.

3Name and Document

Give your formulation a highly descriptive name (e.g., "Strawberry Bloom Phase V2") and add optional notes in the description box to remind yourself of what you were trying to achieve. Once you click Save, everything is permanently stored in the cloud under your user account.

Managing Your Saved Formulations

You can view all your stored recipes at any time by heading to the Saved Formulations page located in your navigation menu.

The formulations list provides a clean, easily readable card system representing every recipe you've saved. You can instantly review the amount of each salt required, the exact targets you aimed for (stored accurately via our modern JSON database structure), and whether you were formulating for a direct addition or a concentrated stock solution.
